Extending medical school beyond 4 years

Breaking the four-year boundary of medical school is considered a significant taboo, straying from the conventional path. While tutoring options exist for students, schools often refrain from offering them to individuals who are no longer officially enrolled. This lack of support poses a challenge for students who must take a leave, as they lose their status as medical students.

Consequently, the resources and benefits they once had access to, such as healthcare services or library facilities for studying, are revoked. Unfortunately, there is a dearth of guidance available for individuals confronted with this predicament.

Stephanie E. Moss is a medical student.
