Revitalizing internal medicine: challenges and solutions

Internal medicine presents an enticing prospect for numerous medical students owing to its expansive array of career pathways. Nevertheless, the field grapples with certain challenges. Notably, there's a concerning decline in physician interest in internal medicine, particularly within cognitive specialties and primary care. This trend can be attributed to the dual challenges of reduced reimbursement rates and escalating administrative demands.

Encouragingly, viable solutions have been proposed to address these issues. What is imperative now is for our leaders, both at the federal level and within the private sector, to take decisive action. By doing so, we can cultivate a sustainable workforce poised to serve generations to come.
